Summary of Position:

The Site Reliability Engineer will design, build and drive software and systems to promote best practices to manage platform infrastructure and applications; provide thought leadership in Chaos Engineering; improve reliability, quality, and time-to-market of our software solutions; and measure and optimize system performance – all with an eye toward pushing our capabilities forward, getting ahead of customer needs, and innovating to continually improve.


Key Activities:

  • Thought leadership in Chaos Engineering
  • Develop and promote the chaos engineering discipline at VisitPay
  • Inform designs of high availability, scalable, secure, and cost optimized architecture
  • Recommends the techniques/technologies to improve resilience in design, code, and infrastructure
  • Gather and analyze metrics from both operating systems and applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding
  • Partner with development teams to improve services through rigorous testing and release procedures
  • Participate in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning
  • Create sustainable systems and services through automation and uplifts
  • Balance feature development speed and reliability with well-defined service level objectives
  • Determine change safety and execute production changes
  • Support incidents related to production systems

  • A proactive thinker who makes data-driven decisions and can manage complex initiatives from conception to deployment
  • Possess an architectural mindset with proven ability to review architecture to derive Chaos Strategy and expose vulnerabilities
  • Proven track record performing chaos testing to build confidence in the system's capability to withstand turbulent conditions in production
  • Proven use of Chaos engineering tools (e.g., Gremlin)
  • Enjoys learning across multiple disciplines; technical, business, process, and management
  • A proactive approach to spotting problems, areas for improvement, and performance bottlenecks
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, solution-oriented approach 


  • 5+ years of DevOps/Site Reliability/Chaos Engineering experience
  • Hands on experience with Cloud technologies (Azure/AWS)
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or other technology discipline, or similar experience
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or ARM Templates
  • Experience with chaos engineering, e.g., Gremlin, ChaosBlade, Litmus, Azure Chaos Studio, etc.
  • Ability to program (structured and OO) with one or more high level languages, such as Python, C#, Java, C/C++, GO, and JavaScript
  • Experience with Azure services, automation, and scaling methodologies
  • Proven Hands-on experience working with modern container services (Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Experience with distributed storage technologies like Azure Storage, NFS, HDFS, Ceph, S3 as well as dynamic resource management frameworks (Mesos, Kubernetes, Yarn)
  • Experience with metric, analytic, dashboard, and alerting tools
